Inneresting 90
issue 90
February 25th, 2021
Say a man and a woman both need something to sleep in and both go to the same men's pajama department. The man says to the salesman, "I just need bottoms," and the woman says, "I just need a top." They look at each other and that's the 'meet cute.'
Why Meet When You Can Meet Cute?
Agreeing on Our Terms: Wikipedia pinpoints the birth of the phrase “Meet Cute” and what it grew to mean.
I Don’t Normally Do This: Daniel Whidden shows some essential elements for writing a Meet Cute.
Someone Like You Running Into Someone Like Me: Mike Bedard argues that there are four main categories of Meet Cute based on how the characters first feel about each other.
Listen to Me Babbling: Jenny Cruisie takes a deep dive into the first meeting between Oliver Queen and Felicity Smoak from Arrow, and how this one scene lays the groundwork for the relationship to follow.
Highland 2 Backups (In Case of Meet Cute)
There you are, absentmindedly carrying your laptop and a cup of coffee. You bump into a stranger and both drop everything you’re carrying.
Your eyes meet, and suddenly it hits you:
“All my writing was on that laptop!”
Under Preferences in Highland 2, head to the Backup tab and select a file folder for Highland to automatically save backup copies of all your work as you write. For added safety, use a folder connected to the cloud!
Then the next time you comically bump into a stranger, you can focus on the oddly specific overlaps in your interests and backgrounds instead of hurrying off to recreate your lost writing.
